5 Words/Terms Every Christian Ought To Know

 There is a lot to be studied in Christendom and I will want you to know some words that are used on a daily basis that are not so difficult to understand and knowing these can enhance your ability to study and share the gospel with all.

 


I will not go in-depth to explain what these words mean but I will give you an overview, and you go on to do the rest of the work, for studies is good for your soul especially if it is from the Lord God.

Justification: This is the action of being declared righteous in the sight of God because of Christ’s atonement for sin on the cross. In other words, we are saved/justified because of Christ’s finished work on the cross.

Sanctification: I believe you have heard this many times. As a Christian, after being justified by God because of Christ’s finished work on the cross, the Holy Spirit aids in your sanctification, in other words, the Holy Spirit helps you to live set apart for Him. In simple terms, to live a holy life is to live in sanctification.

Predestination: This is the doctrine that God has ordained all and everything that will happen, especially with regard to the salvation of some and not others. This teaching has been associated with John Calvin (French theologian and reformer in Geneva during the Protestant Reformation).

Sovereignty: If you are Christian I’m sure you have come across this word. If you have not then I’m glad you found this blog. This is associated with God who is all-powerful and everything is under His control. Everything!  

Exposition (Expository Preaching): Exposition in Christendom is a form of preaching that details the meaning of a particular text or passage of Scripture. In simple terms, the preacher explains what the Bible means by what it says. This style of sharing the gospel goes against what is popular – telling the people what they want to hear.

THE SINNERS' PRAYER DOESN'T SAVE YOU

Hey man! What do you mean? This is what most people have known their entire lives and they will fight (at worst) to defend this point. Salvation does not come by praying in some creed. Imagine if being saved came by reciting the apostles' creed. Doesn't match up, right? It's the same thing here, salvation does not happen because you repeated a prayer after some pastor in your church. In the church I used to be at, it was a normalcy. Every Sunday, there was an altar call. A call to save people from their sins by reciting the sinners' prayer, and after this is done, the preacher declares you saved. Interesting, because I thought only God could declare us saved. This is basically it: "Say with me" the preacher leading the congregation will say, "Lord Jesus" and the audience who responded to his altar call will repeat after him, "Lord Jesus."
