CHILDREN LOOK UP TO THEIR PARENTS

Right now, I'm reading a book by renowned public speaker John C. Maxwell, titled: Today Matters. Today matters don't it? We all would say yes but rarely pay attention to today. We rarely pay attention to today's events, our goals for today and whatever we have now. We like to focus on the past which is gone and cannot be brought back. We like to focus on the future which only causes us anxiety and forget about today. Today is a gift and we ought to live in it. Focus on today, the now. Tomorrow's success can be found in what you do today.

In the second chapter of this book, page 52, John Maxwell wrote this; "My father retired in his mid-seventies, but he has spent his entire life in public speaking." This line caught my eye. This is not to say mothers do not play a vital role in the home. They certainly do! Nobody is going to negate that and certainly not I. I'm only sharing what I saw in a book.

Children look up to their parents. they watch what the father is doing. they watch what the mother is doing. I say to my friends who are in their early and mid-twenties. Learn about fatherhood. Learn about motherhood. I say this because most of us have not been raised right. Most of us come from fatherless homes or broken homes, This post is not about this.

Why did John Calvin Maxwell decide to become a public speaker? I believe a big reason would be because his dad was in this field and he followed in his footsteps. "What life are you living today?" was the question that popped up after reading this? Will you want your children to follow in your footsteps and even to become even better people? Or you will keep saying to them to do this and that and not do what you do? Are you going to be the right mentor to them?

Then, today is the day to live your life right. To get it right. Build the right habits today. Let them know daddy is the right man. Let them know, mommy is the right woman. If you mess your life up now, you're going to mess theirs in the next few years. it's not that long you know. Children follow what you do, not what you say. They are the best copycats in the world.

No, I'm not married. Do I desire to get married, of course! It is a beautiful thing. Do I desire to have children? Why wouldn't I? Now, boys, you are the backbone of your families. Grow up to be men. Look at your future, not in the mirror of selfishness, but live to want to impact your family. Live right, impact your wife and children, and they will impact society and the world. But first, it starts with you.

To be a great parent starts whilst you are not a parent. Tomorrow's success can be found in what you do today. Tomorrow's failure can also be found in what you do today. It's all up to you, to choose to fail or succeed. Go on, make that choice.

"Jesus," The Name Of A Slave Ship?

One of the first two English slave ships to carry West Africans to the New World was named Jesus. Jesus of Lübeck. Its captain was Sir John Hawkins, known as the first English slave trader. Now, it is believed, or it's historically true that this ship was one of the first to ever land the shores of West Africa to carry slaves from here to the western world. According to journalist Michael Eli Dokosi, Sir John Hawkins persuaded West Africans to gain salvation by boarding the Good Ship Jesus.  Now, let's talk a little about the ship.  Jesus of Lübeck was a carrack built in the Free City of Lübeck in the early 16th century. Around 1540 the ship, which had mostly been used for representative purposes, was acquired by Henry VIII, King of England, to augment (increase) his fleet (warships).  The ship saw action during the French invasion of the Isle of Wight (Island in England) in 1545. She along with Samson were used in an unsuccessful attempt to raise Henry VIII’s flagship, M...

WE ARE LIVING IN THE RENAISSANCE

We live in a world where it is not impossible to be a renaissance person. What does it mean to be a renaissance person? The renaissance is associated with people who could and can do more than one thing very well especially when it comes to the arts. Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Pablo Picasso are some of the few names that have been associated with the renaissance period. They were the universal men. The renaissance men of the past were men who were specialized in more than a thing. I know artists who think being an artist means sticking to one thing for the rest of your life. No, you can explore more and do more providing you have the skill and knowledge. I made a post on Instagram about photographers refusing to be called photographers because they think being called a photographer does not mean being an artist. In this post, I explained that being a photographer means being an artist, a visual artist for that matter. I got a comment from a photographer friend who said "I...
