THE DEPENDENT CHRISTIAN

Who are you dependent on? Who is in control of your life? You? Something else, or God? Ever heard the phrase, "nature abhors vacuum?" Who are you a slave to? I know I ask many questions, please bear with me.
Nobody is truly free, God alone is free. What and to who have you given your life? The idea of freedom does not exist. When people talk about being free this is what they really mean: 

I don't want anyone lording over me. I want to live without boundaries. They mean let me live my life. Anyone who is trying to direct me for the better is an oppressor, including the infinite God!

We are all tied to something, to some idea of how we want our lives to be like. This alone shows how captivated we are by presenting some outlook. 

I love this verse in the book of Psalms - I lift up my eyes to the mountain, where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of Heaven and Earth! What we note in the book of Psalm is the level of dependency by its writers. They depended on God.
Where does your breath come from? From God alone!
Who gives you the ability to move? God alone!

This world glorifies being independent and it's for a good reason. If you are a man, you want to be independent of your parents, get a woman, wife her and become one with her. But I believe independence has been glorified to a point that it says with much pride "I need no one, I can do it all by myself." No, you cannot. You certainly cannot do it without Christ.

Always remember this - We are slaves as much as we are sons. Sons submit to their father's authority and slaves submit to their master's authority. O, how sweet it is to be the slave of a good master! Jesus is the good master. O, how sweet. Depending on He alone. Know this, the slave is not in the position of providing food, clothing and shelter for him/herself when he/she is with his/her master. The good master does all of that.

We are all slaves to something or someone. Why wouldn't you want to be a slave to the Good Person who cares for your soul? In Christianity, it's never about being outside the flock. It's never about being a stand-alone person wanting to go his own way, but rather, submitting to the Master's command and honouring every word of His.



Cast all your anxiety upon Him (1Peter 5:7). Go to the Lord daily, in prayer, read His Word. He loves you. He cares for you! He said in the waters He will be with us, and the rivers shall not overflow us, and when we walk through the fire we will not be burnt! What master would you want more than this very one!

This is a blessed assurance! The assurance of every Christian, that, God is for him and who can be against him? This is blessed assurance, that, Jesus is ours! The Christian has been purchased of |God and born of His Spirit and has been washed in His blood! What an atonement! Who would lay down his life for you right now? Yet the King of Kings did! And you don't want to depend on Him? 

He is the Good Teacher!

"Jesus," The Name Of A Slave Ship?

One of the first two English slave ships to carry West Africans to the New World was named Jesus. Jesus of Lübeck. Its captain was Sir John Hawkins, known as the first English slave trader. Now, it is believed, or it's historically true that this ship was one of the first to ever land the shores of West Africa to carry slaves from here to the western world. According to journalist Michael Eli Dokosi, Sir John Hawkins persuaded West Africans to gain salvation by boarding the Good Ship Jesus.  Now, let's talk a little about the ship.  Jesus of Lübeck was a carrack built in the Free City of Lübeck in the early 16th century.
